A local man from Wrington, North Somerset has raised over £8,000 having organised and taken part in a mega 12-hour ‘spinathon’.

John Griffin, (80), has now donated the money to the Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity as well as the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The event took place at the health club and spa, Cadbury House in Congresbury in September 2023 where John was joined by other health club members who either took in part for the whole 12 hours or smaller one hour slots.

A spin enthusiast, John teaches his own regular classes at the popular health club and thought it the best way to raise the money.

Commenting on the event John said: “I’ve been a keen spin cyclist for many years so was the obvious thing to do to raise not only awareness but money for these two incredible charities.

“The day was amazing and I’d like to thank all those who either took part or donated money. The atmosphere was superb and there was a really good spirit and comradery amongst those who were there on the day.

“I do have a personal connection with the Royal Marsden as my granddaughter who is 13 years old is currently undergoing treatment having been diagnosed back in May, so is certainly close to the heart.

“I hope now the cash will be used to great effect by both charities and was delighted to hand it over.

“I’m now thinking about the next challenge so watch this space!”
